Alder Creek Solar Spring 2020 Community Grants Awarded

ALDER CREEK, NY – May 28, 2020 – Alder Creek Solar and Apex Clean Energy are pleased to announce the recipients of their Spring 2020 community grants. These funds are designed to support community organizations in the following areas: Building Healthy Communities, Economic Development, Environmental Sustainability, and Promoting Education.

“Whether they are directly serving those in immediate need or investing in long-term community priorities, we are grateful for the work these organizations are doing to serve their communities during this difficult time,” said Brian O'Shea, Public Engagement Manager with Apex Clean Energy.

The grantees serving those in immediate need include Christ Our Hope Parish, which operates the Food Pantry at St. Patrick's Church in Forestport. The pantry is currently open by appointment and those in need of food assistance should call 315-942-4618, extension 105, and leave a message for volunteers to schedule an appointment and return the call. Cash or check donations for the pantry can be mailed to: Food Pantry, c/o Christ Our Hope, 108 Charles Street, Boonville, NY 13309.

Another organization benefiting from an Alder Creek Solar Community Grant is Wholesome Living, a non-profit that operates the Boonville Community Gardens and is looking to expand their operations by opening a weekly farmers market in Forestport.

"We are so thankful for the resources provided by Alder Creek Solar to sponsor the Forestport Farmers Market and we're excited to develop a community program to promote health and sustainability through access to local, fresh food," said Ash Fletcher, founder and program director of Wholesome Living, Inc. Volunteers or vendors interested in joining the project can reach out via phone or email to (315) 316-2741 or [email protected].

Other grantees include the Lost Trail Snowmobile Club for the repair of local trail bridges, the Remsen Didymus Thomas Library to help start the Remsen Community Garden, and funds to support the conversion of a vacant lot to a “Pocket Park” in downtown Forestport.

Alder Creek Solar plans to be a long-term community partner, working together with local governments, area businesses, and non-profit organizations to improve people’s lives across the region. Our community grant program is one way that we can contribute to pressing community needs and make a meaningful impact at the local level. Alder Creek Solar and Apex Clean Energy intend to continue the community grant program and issue a second round of funding this fall.
